Rajat Patidar Shares Phil Salt Injury Update Ahead of RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier

Rajat Patidar shares Phil Salt injury update before RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier, confirming that the explosive opener is back in training and close to a comeback — but the final call on his inclusion remains undecided. With Royal Challengers Bengaluru set to face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, all eyes are on RCB’s top-order combination.

Phil Salt Nears Return, But Decision on Hold

Phil Salt, who featured in the first six matches of IPL 2026 before being sidelined due to injury, is now deemed fit by the medical staff. However, captain Rajat Patidar stressed that Salt is still under observation and that the team will assess the pitch and conditions before finalizing the playing eleven.

“Phil Salt is fit. He is under observation by the doctor. He has been participating in a few drills, but we haven’t decided on our playing eleven yet. We will look at the wicket and decide,” Patidar said during the pre-match press conference on Sunday.

Salt’s potential return presents a selection dilemma for RCB. During his absence, the team experimented with Jacob Bethell as Virat Kohli’s opening partner, but the combination failed to ignite. In their final league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings alongside Kohli and delivered a composed performance, adding to the complexity of the decision.

Opening Dilemma: Salt or Iyer?

With both Salt and Iyer offering different strengths, RCB now faces a crucial choice: go for the explosive firepower of Salt at the top or retain the balanced approach with Iyer, who also bolsters the middle order.

Patidar remained tight-lipped about the final batting order, but praised Iyer’s adaptability and team-first attitude.

“I have known Venky since childhood. He has a great attitude and is ready to bat anywhere in the order. He was a main player at KKR, but when he came here, he didn’t get a lot of chances in the beginning. He accepted that and ensured he was prepared when the chance came to cash in,” the RCB skipper said.

The winner of the RCB vs GT clash will secure a direct entry into the IPL 2026 final, making every decision critical. Both teams are expected to field their strongest available lineups.

Bowling Remains RCB’s Strength

Despite a below-par outing from their bowlers in the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad — where even Bhuvneshwar Kumar struggled with his line and length — Patidar backed his pace attack to bounce back.

“He is an experienced bowler. The last game didn’t go the way we wanted, but bowling is our strength, and the way we bowl in the power play will be crucial. So we look for early wickets, and that is what Bhuvi, Hazlewood, and Rasik are doing. So we hope that we continue the same process,” Patidar emphasized.

The trio of Bhuvneshwar, Josh Hazlewood, and Rasikh Dar of the franchise has consistently delivered in the death overs and power play throughout the season, and RCB will be counting on them to dismantle GT’s top order.

High Stakes, High Pressure

As Qualifier 1 looms, the pressure is mounting. RCB’s ability to balance form, fitness, and strategy will determine their fate. Whether they opt for the X-factor of Phil Salt or the reliability of Venkatesh Iyer, one thing is certain — the defending champions are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to defend the title.
